Self Build Conservatories

Conservatories and Conservatory Design: DIY Conservatory Quote

There are lots of reasons why you should consider a self build conservatory. A lot of our customers enjoy the freedom of being able to design the conservatory to their exact specification. Most of this freedom comes from being in charge of your conservatory budget and allowing you to get a lot more for your money. If you take the leap and decide to build a conservatory the first step is to make sure that you understand the different designs on the market.

If you are restricted for height at the back of the structure and are trying to attach your conservatory to a bungalow or a low soffit a Lean To Conservatory is traditional way that people are advised to take but what if you don’t want a low roof? Well the Hipped Backed Edwardian Conservatory allows you stay within the height restriction but with a little design help you can dramatically increase the internal height by linking the roof up from the box gutter towards the conservatory ridge. All of our conservatory main designs are here: DIY Conservatory Styles.

When you decide to build a conservatory another design factor that you need to consider is the position of the conservatory furniture. This fact is often forgotten and is only really thought about once the conservatory is built. Our advice is go outside and mark the outline of the conservatory on the ground and then think about what you want to use the conservatory for. The natural tendency is to put the doors on the front in the middle.

This is great if you want to use your structure as a direct walk through to your garden. Remember that the door position will make a natural corridor so a door in the middle means a corridor with no furniture. A much better solution is to place the French doors on the side this means that you don’t interfere with the layout of the furniture plan and usually get a much better use of the floor plan. Just make sure that when talking to our conservatory designer you let them know which is the master door (the one that opens first) to suit your requirements.
